Having spent 32 years in the Fire Service, I only met Dougie at the last retired Firemans social night at Mathers, Edinburgh, our paths never crossed in uniform, that can happen differant shifts, watchs etc. I had a chat with him on that night out and his warmth  and personality shown through, indeed he was one of the first to sign up for our Xmas lunch, that wasnt to be and that is so sad.
