Golfing buddy

I joined the Fire Brigade in 1977 and moved to Sighthill White Watch where “Dougie fae Dander” was one the officers. He had a ‘man manegement part 1 policy’ and he would slam his fist into the palm of his other hand (jokingly). He was a great practical Leading Fireman that you could always trust at a job.

We played 5-a-side football and also golf together. We used to rise early in the summer days, 3am and play at Carricknowe, slip off at the 17th to avoid paying. Dougie would then go to Murryfield Ice Rink where he worked part time preparing the ice for the skaters.

He was always a good laugh and the very best of friends. Always in my mind.
